<it will be our fault>

Yes. It Saddam dies fighting, he will be remembered as a martyr who died for Arab nationalism. Nobody will remember that he killed a lot more Muslims than Sharon has. It would be so much better, if we could capture him, put him on trial, and have a parade of Kurds, Shias, Iranians testify to his atrocities.

<Why else does the fact that the Palestinians have chosen to suicide bomb kids on buses seem to bother nobody but the Israelis and the Americans?>

Nobody else identifies with this. Since 9/11, Americans can see themselves as the target of random violence, simply because they are Americans. Everybody else is sympathetic, but basically sees themselves as bystanders. The best strategy for a bystander, is to make yourself innocuous, not get involved. Only when they see themselves as potential targets, will they identify with the dead of New York and Tel Aviv. When the French face an Intifada from their Muslims who want to impose Sharia in Marseille, when suicide bombers destroy Paris cafes, then they will identify with Israelis.
