One of the big problems here is politicians who spend in the flush times that leave us gasping in the lean times.

The mayor of San Jose gave the firefighters and police raises, which I'm sure they deserve. However, these raises were 25% raises. Now that the tax income is down, these expenses cannot be rescinded. Likewise, they gave raises to city officers, and approved a huge bond for an unneeded new city hall. Now, we're faced with incredible cutbacks, because we spent up to the budget of the boom.

One of the basic tenets that I will agree with my Republican friends is, is that the government has got to stop acting as if taxpayers are sheep with golden wool. Our local schools are faced with teacher layoffs, increasing class sizes, and program cutbacks. All the local schools are *closing their libraries*. Is that any way to teach our children?

BIG GOVERNMENT??!! Bush's is the biggest in HISTORY!
Yeah now he's trying to cut it back down, but only cuts in benefits for the middelclas, women, kids, veterans and poor. No cuts for corporate welfare, tax cuts for the rich, SDI, Crusader boondoggles, none of those "un-American" cuts.
