But I DO absolutely concur with you about how Saddam has adapted the tactics of his hero, Stalin, and his other hero, Hitler (who also adapted many of Stalin's tactics).. Stalingrad was lost because Hitler ordered 6th Army to attack into the middle of the city, rather than encircling it first, including crossing the Volga river, and cutting it off from resupply from across the Volga River.. Now part of this was because Hitler also ordered the 4th Panzer Army to head south and secure Rostov and to move to capture the Caucasus oil fields. 4th Panzer Army could have easily captured Stalingrad in July, had this diversion and division of striking power not occurrred.216.198.255.120 216.198.255.120 216.198.255.120 216.198.255.120 216.198.255.120 216.198.255.120 216.198.255.120 The lesson.. DO NOT get involved in house to house fighting without cutting off the enemy's supply lines. Cut 'em off and let them die on the vine... starving them out, if necessary, but hopefully encouraging an insurrection... Make Saddam responsible for feeding his OWN people within the city. They are primarily Sunni Arabs who have spent the past 20 years as the primary demographic group who has benefitted from Saddam's repression of the Shiites and Kurds. Let THEM overthrow him.. It's our job to isolate and lay seige to Baghdad, while doing our upmost to provide humanitarian relief and rebuilding in the south.... We must create the conditions for an insurrection, which can only occur when the population in Baghdad realizes that their lot will only improve when he is removed. But whatever we do.. prevent any forces from escaping, and continue to attrit Saddam's forces when possible, and with as minimal a civilian cost of life as possible. Hawk
