Sig, you can try to justify anything. You could justify wrong doing on account of WWI, WWII, the Cold War, the everybody else is doing it too, or my favorite "National Interest". But you know what, it doesn't matter an iota. And the thing is that it is always the abusers who are so quick to be understanding without even making an attempt to make it up to their victims. Let's see how these justifications would sound in a real court: You have to understand my client. But you honor, you should note that during the L.A. riots everybody was looting and killing everybody else...NOT! I don't think it flew there. or how about being good relative to our strength: In my client's defense your honor, I should point out that he is 6'7" and body builds with 100lb dumbbells. It is not his fault that Ms. Jones was only a 98lb weakling and just looked too good to resist. What do you think of those lines of reasoning?
