Rumsfeld was questioned later on if he agrees with Adelman's expressed opinion. He did not come up and directly say yes I do, but he gave the impression that he thought it was a reasonable view.

Derek, of course not. The active military don't write article in newspapers. And neither do cabinet members. Their advisory boards do, though.

Did you personally - two weeks ago - have the impression that the invasion would be resisted rather than welcomed ? Did you not hear all the announcements of secret surrender talks ? Did anyone really think the soldiers would be spending weeks in the desert waiting for re-inforcement ? That they end up destroying each town they pass thru because of resistance?
