Mike, I think you miss the crux of the argument: the Democrats did beat George W. Bush. Soundly, by half a million votes. But I agree that it is the fault of the Democrats that we are beset by Republican incompetents. If they can't nominate candidates who can beat these idiots, then we get the sort of govt. and economy and world hate that we deserve. You can't blame the Republicans, any more than you can blame a rattlesnake for biting. Everyone knows what they are like and the problem is nobody, including the Dems, knew what the Democrats stood for the past two elections. Voters will often be attracted to candidates who have easily explained beliefs, even if they are wrong-headed.
