How many times have various states been accused of undermining the existing regime, preferring to deal with more palatable political, or ideological, entities in respective governments?? All of this is a form of imposing our values upon others. And unless you're ashamed of our democratic values, and prefer supported despotic tyrannies, it should be our choice we wish to associate and negotiate with.

Well, you raise a host of questions here, Hawk. Such as national self determination, etc. None of which would have been applicable at the end of WWI in dealings with Germany. The choice of dealing with the Reichstag rather than the previous government can easily be read as simply the logical action of a conquering power. When you win you get to pick with whom you will talk.

But that's still not evidence about Wilsonian doctrine.
