Did you also believe the Press Releases of Enron? And the analyst recommendations of the boom days. The driving force for manipulation in those days was "greed". Now we are in the "fear" mode of manipulation.

That does not mean that every company that hyped up its prowess was a rogue company. We all rolled our dice, and won some and lost some. Many of the company insiders won, most of the investors lost.

Similarly,in the Iraq war, the US administration is rolling the dice this time. It is possible that it is being rolled out purely for US interests (security, oil price stability, etc.). It is also possible that it is partly being rolled for the Insiders (large political donors to the current administration). Will you be shocked, shocked that such things happen?

Now the dice has been rolled... If US wins the bet, don't be too surprised if some Insiders benefit tremendously. If US loses the bet, every american faces the downside.

The problem is that in discussions about Foreign Policy, we are all in the dark about the real motives. While Iran was the rogue country, the US administration was cutting deals with Iraq as well as Iran. There is all this veneer of transparency with Press Conferences, embedded reporters etc.
But there was supposed transparency in Company quarterly reports, analyst conference calls....

>If you prefer to think that the leadership of this country and the UK are merely lying to us for their own malicious purposes, rather than that they are acting on their best intelligence estimates, there is not much to say, we do not have common ground enough...... >
