If you get a chance to see it, it is really worth the time. I don't know if Discovery is going to re-run it or not. But it really provides a lot of unique insight as to what underlies the anti-Americanism in the MidEast as well as in Muslim popoulations elsewhere (for example, Indonesia).

Dis. Channel usually runs things a few times.......I will check out their schedule and see if I can catch it.

In particular, it is clear there is a great deal misinformation amongst these people. Intelligent young Muslims are totally confused as to what America does and doesn't do. It is clear that we have to have a means of spreading the truth in the Middle East as well as in other regions. Hell, in France, for that matter.

Whenever I have traveled overseas the general view is that foreign people like Americans and hate the American gov't. However, that isn't even true a lot........many Americans do not travel well and have expectations that seem very demanding and arrogant to foreigners. I think that's from where the term the ugly American came. However, the Germans and Brits don't have great reps when they travel either.....maybe it comes from being wealthy and on top.

You say I am overly critical of the US when it comes to international affairs. Maybe its because I have seen this country through foreign eyes and we come up very short at times. Its funny.......I get hit over the head by foreigners defending American when I am overseas and then get hit over the head by Americans for being critical of American policies....particularly those that negatively effect the rest of the world. I guess you can't win. <g>

But I tell you, I get real annoyed when I read stuff like what we did supporting Saddam in the 80s. Supporting a brutal dictator is not what this country or Americans are all about.......there seems to be a disconnect between the ideals we espouse and the realities of our gov't's actions.

In the past you have suggested that I am naive; that that's how gov'ts have to operate in the world..........may be so. But then I don't think we should be surprised when the world burns an image our our president in effigy and trashes our embassies.
