Why do you think I dislike his positions more than Bush Jr's positions?

I don't. I was asking a genuine question because I wanted to know.

Wish I had been born 100 years into the future.

Why? You've got a create opportunity to be one of the people that causes change, not just benefit from somebody else. Isn't that kind of neat?

Do you think a male CEO from the Baby Boomer generation with a wife at home should make up rules for dual-working Gen X men and women in a vacuum of input from GenX?

Just because a person is male, a CEO, and a Baby Boomer with a wife at home doesn't mean that he is necessarily an idiot in this area. Yes, I realize that the probability is higher, but believe it or not, there are a lot of intelligent CEOs out there who have open minds.

Why wait 100 years? And why should the smart women in a company that makes the wrong decision have to suffer as their company stumbles? No need. A good law kept in place, can retain them. They can move up.

Who says you have to wait 100 years. You are one of the decision makers in a startup. You can help make changes right now, today. Think about a company that has a group of closed minded idiots in charge who are only allowing family leave because the law forces them to. Do you really think that a woman is going to get a fair shake there? No. In the end, that company will do everything they need to do to comply with the law and still keep the glass ceiling in place. And belive me, Amy, I have seen situations like that with my own eyes, with my own family. Better to let that company chase the talent away and then go broke competing with other companies that will attract and retain talent. The free market works faster, not slower, when the government is not involved.

But, Bush Jr is really good for "start-ups"...

Amy,

re: Do you think a male CEO from the Baby Boomer generation with a wife at home should make up rules for dual-working Gen X men and women in a vacuum of input from GenX? Too many companies with this particular profile do this, and that's a waste of time for a GenX to wait out that kind of stuff.

I am a male "Baby Boomer". The preceding statement from you is narrow-minded and discriminatory. It exhibits the same kind of bigoted attitude that you are accusing others of having.

Amy, I respect your views and insights generally. I am very disappointed in this particular comment, however. You should not paint everyone who does not share your own gender and/or generation with the same broad brush. Although I know it wasn't your intention, you sound like a victim looking for someone to blame when you take such a stance.

The laws *allowed* people to talk like that ["Sr Bush actually said on CSPAN that women should stay at home with their children."] back then. Sounds wrong today though doesn't it?

No, it sounds like free speech, no matter how stupid. This after you said

"NBC and National Geography seem to be discouraging freedom of speech [for firing Peter Arnett]."

Peter Arnett said something disagreeable and was fired by his employers. Likewise Bush pere said something disagreeable and was fired by his employers. Because you disagree with the war, you think it was a free speech issue that Arnett was fired, but because you disagree with something Bush pere said, you think he shouldn't be "allowed" to say it. What a hypocrite. Your Silicon Valley startup never made a dime and needs to go bankrupt, like Larry Ellison said.
