Why don't you quit complaining and enjoy the trip. As my and your Mother used to say, "Look out the window and enjoy the scenery." April 1, 2003 Rumsfeld and Myers Assail Complaints About War Strategy By DAVID STOUT [W] ASHINGTON, April 1 ? Pentagon officials struck back today at critics of the military campaign in Iraq, declaring that complaints about the handling of the war are misinformed, inaccurate and harmful to American forces in combat. In an unusually heated news briefing, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard B. Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the second-guessing going on now was nothing new. "This war is well begun," Mr. Rumsfeld said, "but it has only begun." At one point, he laughingly dismissed as "nonsense" some of the criticism he has seen in newspaper reports. Both officials dismissed various complaints about the military campaign ? that it was launched before there were enough troops deployed, that it relied too heavily in the beginning on air power ? as wrongheaded. Members of the Joint Chiefs were unanimous in approving the plan beforehand, Mr. Rumsfeld and General Myers said, and commanders in Iraq are getting all the men and equipment they ask for. General Myers replied at some length, and with considerable heat, to a question that had been directed at Mr. Rumsfeld. "I would like to comment," the general interjected, then proceeded to assail much of the criticism as irresponsible, "bogus" and a disservice to Americans in battle. The kind of criticism he has been hearing lately is "great sport here inside the Beltway," General Myers said.nytimes.com
