"how God could expect His creatures to pick the one true religion by faith "

It may be that you misunderstand the meaning of faith. Faith is simply trusting a person's words and deeds. When the Apostles and disciples wrote about the words and actions of Jesus, could their words be trusted. So faith in God has two dimensions. There is the faith in Christ himself, and faith in the words of the eyewitness Apostles who recorded his words. Reading the Gospels carefully, with an honest and open heart and mind, will reveal that these men were sober and serious minded men who were writing historical realities and not invented myths. AS you read the Gospel narratives you are struck by the sincerity of these men. The narratives challenge you to question whether or not these things are so. When an individual approaches these eyewitness historical New Testament documents with an open heart and mind, the historical reality is merged with the spiritual reality and faith (trust) is born in the heart.
