Don't think a wider war will happen - Richard Perle being fired shows the neocons (American Empire Builders) will be pushed out and the nationalists (Rumsfeld, Cheney) will steer the US toward a less preemptive / less confrontatinal direction.

Only thing that might change that would be both WMD and lots of the Baath party and Saddam's people in Syria.

From a politically tactical point of view, the Iraq war will stop as soon as posible, much of Iraq will be handed over to international agencies, and the administration will focus on the US economy and repairing alliances. Why ? Because that will help them get re-elected in 2004. Republicans are aware of how narrow the margin was on 2000.

There will also be a roadmap for the Palestine/Israeli issue. Expect that most of the events will be scheduled after the 2004 election. Also expect the administration to push extremely hard to get this started.
