Nothing to gain from lies. The disease monitoring system may not be up to snuff. Paranoia blows everything out of proportion and into bad limelight. One positive consideration is the absence of any smokescreen. Therefore, there is absolutely NO LIE in this case here. European labs already found the culprit and are making cultures in egg yolks for vaccines.

Amy, <I understand the benefits of Communism in a poor country and understand how this method of leadership can be faster at outpacing Democracies ... However, lying serves absolutely no purpose for growing China's businesses.>

You fail to understand that one of the central tenets of modern communisms is a popular faith in the system. Otherwise, there would be no motivation for hard work, since you can forget about any profit motive in such a regime.

China maintains this faith through a combination of nationalism, a personality cult, and a state-controlled media. When this system tolerates the trampling of human rights for the "good of the state," liberals like yourself should take note. The notion that China is trying to hide the SARS outbreak from their own people only reinforces my point.

Maybe what you'd prefer in China is a socialism, not a communism. Yes, there are differences, even if they aren't very well defined.

P.S. - Why debate with a guy who thinks Tiennamen Square was nothing more than "China's Internal Affair"? (http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=18729257)
