That was the essence of his commentary and its not true.....at least not all the time The basis of the negativity of Imperialism is that those conquered are oppressed, abused, manipulated, and have no rights of citizens. That is not the case in any of the places you mentioned. And it can be argued that our annexation has led to a commercialization of the islands that has done some real damage to the islands' fragile eco system, resulting in the loss of some very unique specials of animals and plants. That commercialization also led to the overpopulation of the islands and now, because of 9/11 and Japan's economic miseries, the islands can't produce enough jobs to go around. We assume that the way we live is the best way and that everyone wants to live like we do. That assumption may not be true.
