Maurice, my main point was that American guys and NZ guys both come from societies where people don't casually shoot women and children. They just don't do it. That's why your example wasn't at all thoughtful. As life would have it, I had a chance to meet a large number of members of US military, from soldiers to Generals. They all were serious, alert, thoughtful, civilized people. I cannot think of a single individual who would give even the slightest hint of being capable of any stupid brutality. They are professional soldiers, they are patriots, they have strong awareness that our values and our freedom at times will need to be defended. There wasn't even a single Oliver Stone Hollywood type desperado among them.
