As far as I am concerned (and for that matter the world is concerned), if it was not because of the U.S, there would be no Germany as we know it today after the WWII. For that the Germans will (and should) always be our ass-kissers (and let there be no doubt about that). As for the French, can you recall any major incident within the past 30-40 years that we have relied on them (with the exception of the Gulf war in 91)? As far as I can remember the friendship has always been a one way street (that is us being their friends and all they have done has been to simply take that friendship without giving anything "real" in return).
