Two missiles crossed paths over Iraq today, an El Massoud and a Tomahawk Cruise. The Cruise missile saw the Massoud going the other way and turned around and caught up with it. He engaged the Iraqui missile in conversation. C. "Hey! Ali! hows tricks? Say, let's not get in a big kerfluffle over our targets, I am not programmed to intercept missiles and neither are you, so let's just be friends for a second or two.. So how are you these days.." M. "By faith, you had me worried, but I see your point, I am headed for my target, and praise god, I will hit it with much luck, but you are right, we have no immediate quarrel, so I am fine, a little low on fuel due to the sanctions but otherwise well. You?" C. "Couldn't be better. So far America the Magnificent has lots of gas, so I am positively chirpy. Excuse my fundamentalist sound, but I was programmed in Kentucky. But things must be a bit rough with, you, aside from the fact that we missiles have such a short lifespan.. what's eating you, beside a bit of rust here and there? M. "Well you Cruisers can hit a pin at a thousand, but with my equipment and programs, I am lucky to make it past the missile silo and into the next county. I am aimed at an American barracks, but with our luck, I will probably hit a sand dune about 3 miles away. Basically I am a flying garbage can full of industrial dynamite with a magnetic compass on board." C. "Well, that is the curse of being a 3rd world missile. You are so inaccurate you are dangerous. But it is tough being a Cruise. There are so many of us, that we are confined to smaller and smaller targets. With this accuracy we barely carry a 25 pound warhead. It's shameful. We don't even qualify as weapons of mass destruction. There are three version of my kind, targeted for different portions of Sadaam Hussein's anatomy. You are reduced to a number in this army. It's soul destroying." M. "Gee that's too bad. At least I carry the false and deluded hope of thousands of my country men that I may hit a target for a change, and make the headlines in tomorrow's Death to American Standard. You know you have really cheered me up.. say who is that walking out there in the desert down below?" C. "I do believe that is a reporter.. you know with my remote sensing I can tell you exactly who that is.. Why .. it's Geraldo Rivera..!!" M. "really? (Mocking) Do you think we can get an Interview? Ha Ha ha...!" C. "Huh.. listen they program pride into our sensors, I could not even compute that low.. are you thinking what I am thinking..?" M. "I am beginning to get the picture.,. It might be worth it.. this could be the start of a new era in US-ME co-operation.." C. "Can you program a course change?.. this is an opportunity.." M. "Yes, there are emergency features to the new models.. just a second.. let me get the co-ords.." We fade to two missile in a rapid descent towards the desert floor.. If it can be said that missiles show some human emotion, the grand flourishing arc of the twin contrails surely signifies more than modicum spirit and self-affirmation. Even a military rocket knows the joy of a chance too good to pass up. EC<:-}
