Looks like I'll have to eat my words --- or Al Jazeera's.u.tv sundayherald.com I have to say (at least, in my own defence) that I am not a fan of Al Jazeera. Although the station purports to be the voice of "free" Islam or whatever, in fact, I have never understood who or what the station actually represents. As you know, it is situated on Qatar, which is strongly predisposed to the US, in fact, Doha its capital, has the second largest concentration of US forces in the MidEast, after Kuwait (and excluding Iraq, of course). Perhaps you were unaware that the station used to relay BBC TV in the Persian Gulf and has continued to enjoy that association. Furthermore, there is a suggestion that it is associated with Israel.news.bbc.co.uk >>>Mr al-Hamr [Bahrein Information Minister] is said to have accused the station of being infiltrated by Zionists. "We believe (Al Jazeera) is suspect and represents the Zionist side in the region. We will not deal with this channel because we object to its coverage of current affairs. It is a channel penetrated by Zionists," he was quoted as saying. <<< Jordan has also banned Al Jazeera for saying insulting things about its President.news.bbc.co.uk >>>Al-Jazeera was "undermining Jordan and its national policies on purpose", he later told the French news agency AFP. Tuesday's debate had gone beyond "all limits, all ethics" of journalism, he said, adding: "It was pure defamation against Jordan and the royal family. The mediator of the programme and some participants did not hesitate to use insults." <<< For what it's worth, it's my interpretation that Al Jazeera is actually "flying false colors". While covertly being very much pro-US, pro-Israel and pro-UK, it makes many provocative statements about various subjects in order to pretend that it is not a Western puppet. In fact, I began to suspect its credentials when Al Jazeera was the only TV station in the region which received (from where? Hollywood?) and transmitted the bin Laden tapes.
