Maybe the distinction you are reaching for is the distinction between urban culture and rural culture. Urban areas all over the world seem very similar except for the languages on the labels. Tokyo and Baghdad are more similar to New York than any of them, New York included, is similar to the Navajo reservation my brother works on.
