I'm not worried about Kerry saying the US needed a "regime change". As soon as the sentimentality of this war is behind us and some hard questions need to be answered as to why we were there and what we did, Kerry's comments will seem on message.

It got Kerry through the Bush smoke-screen over the media. Sometimes you have to speak your mind and your heart. Sometimes you also need to get press.

Democrats are also very glad Kerry smoke out and remember he's got to win them over first. It will shake them up and get them fighting again.

The issue also enabled Kerry to compare his war record to the Republican leadership. Pretty smart huh? Kerry has "quesitonable judgement" like a fox.
