Yes, Sun Tzu, I noticed that you chose your words carefully. I just don't think you are right on this one. "Islamicists" want to restore their religion to what they think was its original purity, when by following the word of God literally and in every detail they are able to reunite everyday life with the spiritual. Their purpose is, indeed, to remove and to extinguish the corrupting influence of the 'heathens', of people who live their life in a state of ignorance ("Jahilyiah" ?sp).

The essence of their movement is not compromise (separation of State and Church), but its opposite, a religious revolution, a restoration, a purification.

Therein lies the grave danger they present to moderate Muslims. If extremists manage to capture political power, the moderates may find themselves undergoing some very forced "re-education", a la Joe Stalin or Pol Pot.
