If that happens the US and Britain will need to support another strongman / puppet regime or make Iraq a protectorate. Either way the cheering crowds wouldn't last long and they would have as pezz says 'blown it'. It also wouldn't take 30 years for reaction to flare up again this time.

That's re-colonization at work! Whenever my wife praises rich countries and their -on the surface benevolence- I always remind her (if the case is the US):

No country became a 13 trillion Dollar economy being good to anyone.
