Well, it wasn't bs then and it isn't now.

You negotiate from a position of strength. If the other party doesn't acquiesce, a position of strength allows you to just take it. Basic negotiating.

That is precisely why it's effective. If it's common knowledge you're not willing to back it up (see France), then nobody will take you at your word.

The odds of us having to fight again even with tough talk is now greatly reduced.
