I have found that the reaction outside the US has been decidedly sympathetic with Muslims and decidedly anti-american and anti-israel. This is anecdotal, so I won't claim statistical significance. The only way that his plan can be to his "liking" if things continue toward a Jihad, is if he is looking for the total annihilation of the Jihadis. I believe that he, along with much of the world, underestimated the U.S. I believe he thinks we are soft and that we don't have the stomach for what needs to be done to meet this threat. I believe that this is the fatal flaw in his plan. Some threats need to be met with a ruthlessness that convinces the opponents that it is a no-win situation. That they are going up against someone who is willing to take it one step further than they are.
