That post is hilarious.

You sure are a writer. If I ever have the time, and SI lives, I'm going to make separate collections of posts of the three best writers I've read on SI: Gauguin (who is, sadly, gone from these precincts), Steven Rogers, and you. You and Gaugie produce literature, Steven polemics, but I've seen remarkable writing from you three and I'm sure none of you will collect it yourselves. Life being what it is, I won't either, no doubt. But I feel someone should.

Surely Barcelona has been upgraded, touristically speaking, since the 70's.

But I'm going to just keep those things in mind so as not to have second thoughts about Venice.

I'm sure that everything is still closed from noon to 2:00. That's true in Italy, too, pretty much. The restaurants aren't closed, though, so you can have lunch and take a nap then.

LOL! I was in Spain (I think) in 72. They had toilet paper, yes! But parts of Mexico still do not (as of a few years ago...). An attendant at a bus station wanted the equivalent of about 10 cents for my step-daughter to use the washroom. She started bawling because she KNEW there was no toilet paper; she KNEW she was being ripped off! I paid the man and even tipped him surreptitiously...:-)

Again...I remember a seafood dinner in Venezuela at a swank restaurant that tasted like aquarium fish in a sea sand sauce! One of the few times food has made me physically sick. And they DID have toilet paper.<g>

I stayed near Malaga and have never been to Barcelona. What is your favourite place in Spain? Mind you, after listening to E, I am having trouble thinking about anywhere other than Venice!

Hi Ish,
E is right. You're a great writer. You say more in a paragraph than lots of folks do in two pages.

I'm so excited. Despite your dire warnings, guess what I just did?

Woke up to one of those amazing Top Ten Gate1 Special emails.

Seven days (6 nights) in Barcelona for 699.

Plus taxes, but including airfare and a 4 star hotel.

We're going to Barcelona on May 20! (We won't drink the water.)
