I refer to it as a changing of partners in the midst of the playing so that a broad comeraderie develops. I don't know where it comes from. I've done it in waltzing but I think the term comes from square dancing.

I have not been to a dance in months. I think it is important for people to engage the greater world from time to time and appreciate their own personal freedom of personality...even though they may be couples. So tonight I may flirt just a little...:-)
