res-Next they came for North Korea but that was okay because North Koreans are definitely seeking weapons of mass destruction and might even have them.

Funny post Maurice, even if a bit paranoid.

Regarding NK. I think we should launch a covert military operation and free the hundreds of thousands of people living in that death camp. Maybe a year from now.

After that, we'll see...

FL, the difference is in free will. Those are not conscripted people acting against their will. They are volunteers, respected and paid and believing in what they are doing.

Most of our troops in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam were drafted, and we did not have this problem then either. So do a rant on the moral superiority of troops from our culture, Mq. :>)

Mq, great rant.....but

The comment that began the discussion dealt with a group of Marines who had used valuable videophone time not to call parents, wives, children or relatives but instead to call the parents of a fellow Marine killed in action. These admirable young men had little contact with their own loved ones for months. They therefore gave up something quite valuable in order to comfort the parents of a buddy. The parents were undoubtedly strangers to the Marines.

Conscription or voluntary joinder under these particular circumstances are irrelevant issues. The Marines made a gallant gesture which was not dependent on their status. It was a gratuitous bit of gentlemanly behavior completely independent of their status as soldiers. Lots of 'muricans are like that--I know you know this.

As for the rest of the rant, I think you would agree that it is good for despots to be nervous.
