You are starting to get it. It's about: 1) The abject failure of de-colonization after WWII-as great a catastrophe as the war itself. 2) The urgent need to establish overwhelming power over the primitive Islamic world, which has proved murderous when not controlled. 3) The need to defeat the last bastion of Marxist/Leninist atheism threatening the West, a dangerous domestic enemy which still controls the Democratic party after 30+ years. The spiking of WMD's is not unimportant, as the primitives would use them with abandon against the civilized world, while the domestic enemy cheered them on. But it is by no means first on the list, and never was...
