I admit, I'm not much of a nation-builder myself, but I think Iraq represents a rare synergy of humanitarian needs and strategic necessity. Pursuing stability in the ME is much more important (to me) now. I think helping the Iraqis form a democracy is a nice first step.

I can understand that the concept of nation building sounds very appealing but its a very expensive and not very rewarding process. Nation building is going to be a particularly difficult process in Iraq because the people have had years of becoming assholes and indifferent to each others needs.

Furthermore, for all its rhetoric, this administration does not seem to have a penchant for nation building; to whit, we need look no further than Afghanistan. And the bottom line is our bottom line sucks. We don't have the money for Afghanistan, let alone Iraq.
