Hi kb, How are you doing?

Looks like deja vu all over again. Since you decided to veer from investment subjects, I guess it's ok for me to respond to the OT discussion.

I'm amazed, too, over the performance of our armed forces. Not so much in our overwhelming power, or even in the courage and talent of our troops--no surprise to me there--but rather in the discipline, maturity, command and control displayed at all levels, over and over.

Having said that, I also have no doubt that, with all the false alarms re. WMD's so far (Interesting how little media coverage there is in revealing that there is no "there" there in each case so far.), we'll come up with WMD's one way or another, even if we have to plant them there.

After all, that's consistent with your thesis re. manipulating the press and public opinion. In spite of the nastiness of Hussein, our cover for invading, oops, liberating, Iraq was the presence of WMD's.

Doing a little "salting" with WMD's is entirely consistent with the "ends justify the means" approach of our present neo-conservatives in power, a throwback to our not-so-clever meddling that has caused us and others much grief over the years. Nicaragua, Chile, Iran, El Salvador, Guatamala, etc., plus providing assistance to Hussein. Remember, we didn't think it was such a bad thing that he gassed (which we participated in enabling him to do) on Iranians.

I only pray that the blowback from the Chalabi's and Woolsey's that we seem bent on putting into positions of
power don't leave us ultimately more vulnerable to terrorism rather than less.

Personally, I also have no doubt that, if Hussein had had WMD's, he would have tried to use them. JMO, of course.

Cheers,
Jim

P.S. Back on topic, being a subscriber to db's theory of investing, I've made only couple of short term "low hanging fruit" trades this year--I'm spending more time having fun--fishing, diving, traveling--even snowboarding. Painful learning curve, but a real hoot.
