Your point is valid...for example check out the tax load inflicted by the boys in the ottawa back rooms to pay for such "policies" as the gun registry, MORE french immersion and "renewed" healthcare

World policy gets set in Washington ... policy for the continent, for the hemisphere, for the entire planet ... there is such an outsize concentration of control here, nothing can stand up to that overwhelming firepower, and when come these times in which admin there refuses to listen, there really is not much hope of setting other national policies elsewhere, maybe interim plans for trying to deal with the imbalance, that's about it

So the Rest of Us are left with 1. trying to survive until there comes along an administration that doesn't see dialogue and cooperation as obscene terms, and 2. trying to figure out what to do if/when such an admin doesn't come

It won't be easy - even fixing up the UN is likely a lost cause now, because it could only be swung towards more direct Washington control ..... probably less formal ad hoc alliances could have more use, Canada and México for instance, we have much in common ...... an alliance of the independent democracies i would like to see, with the irish, danes, kiwis, dutch, chilenos, etc .... the indians maybe, why not, subject to standards for the term democracy .... the japanese .... something has to be done, we must either kneel to the bushistas or learn to live independently of them

Which all sounds strange to you Tim, as you seem to identify your interests with those in control of DC .... well few of the Rest of Us do, i sure don't, i know these people, don't trust them one bit, they're the ones bankrupting my neighbours
