Chris Matthews is excellent. MSNBC is a screwy network though. They're trying to appeal to the Fox right-wing crowd now. But maybe this in turn lost them moderates and liberals. I know ratings are crucial, but you cant try to copy Fox. You have to build your own credibility and stick to your guns. Over time I'm sure people will tire of the Fox post 9-11 right-wing ra-ra stuff and want more facts.

I think Chris Matthews has a bright future, though he is a teensy bit hyper. At least he's entertaining and lets us hear both sides of the story then decide. Without lording over guests with his own opinion or relying on that right vs. left shooting match BS which leaves out the moderate views which is where most Americans still stand.

Pehaps the problem is that the GOP is militant right-wing these days but the Democrats and Independents are not unified in their opinions so dont organize in the media much. This makes sense. The same logic applies with Bush being able to dominate the debate solely because he doesn't yet have any opponent, just a scattered group of opponents. But John Kerry I feel will emerge as THE VOICE and the leader against Bush's polices and gradually heighten the debate. If not, this country is in trouble, stuck in a right-wing one-party rule mindset. At least in the media.
