I can find claim after claim that oin fact seat belt jusage does reduce injury and mortality risk. Finding actual statistics is a whole 'nother matter. This calims usage drops mortality by 45%:

Ejection from a vehicle is one of the most life-threatening traumas that can happen to a person in a crash. In fatal crashes, 75 percent of passenger car occupants who were totally ejected from the vehicle were killed. Safety belts are effective in preventing total ejections.
