okay i found where you got this instruction. finding it was a simple matter of putting the entire quote into google.

i stand by my statements to you that this instruction is for troubleshooting.

so, from what i can see, now that i have the whole picture in front of me, is that you appear to have taken the above advice as "the way" to make file and print sharing work on your computer, when in fact the author of the troubleshooting tutorial was offering "ideas to try" in order to determine what needed to be fixed.

to put it another way, file and print sharing is one of the most dangerous things to enable on your computer, from a security standpoint. to suggest that a user remove their defenses permanently in order to make it work is crazy.
