Saw a loop on TV tonight...Said Saddam had closed the Iraq Museum years ago for several years...evidently for restoration. A spokesman (from where?) said when they got the pieces back, it looked as if some were reproductions... Maybe tomorrow will show what this is...

debka might easily exaggerate it, though I don't think they usually make stuff up from whole cloth.

I suppose we will find out. An ultimatum is a hard thing to exaggerate: it is either absolute, or it doesn't exist. In this case, either the ultimatum was issued or it wasn't. If it wasn't, as I suspect is the case, Debka is inventing it.

Israel has been counting down on their fingers until the date when either they or Hizbullah kick off the next Lebanese/Syrian/Israeli war. But if the US wants to cut in, no hard feelings.

No hard feelings on the Israeli right, maybe. There might be one or two elsewhere.

Setting reality aside, the perception that the US is acting as a bodyguard for Israel is not in our interest. We aren't going to win any of the hard core over, but there are plenty of people out there that can be convinced, and we need to adjust words and actions to counteract this perception to the greatest extent possible.
