Not so strange -

Soldiers in defensive positions with helmets and bullet proof vests vs civilians out in the open.

Also consider that 7 deaths (or 10 or 12) when firing into a crowd with automatic weapons is quite low. Clearly there was restraint used.

Small consolation to the dead and wounded. But the bigger problem is this situation could easily be repeated over and over if agitators pick this up as a tactic (fire at solders from unruly crowds).
