re: The democratic government is the highest power in Turkey. The army is a quasi-independent entity that keeps the government in check, since they are designated by the Constitution as "protector of democracy", with the right and the duty to step in when they feel it is in danger. It is a control mechanism.
your statements are contradictory. whoever have the power to step in got the highest power.....
Unlike turkey, Israel is a western type democracy

re: If you recall, we were comparing Turkey and Israel for the role of a democratic influence in the region. In comparison, how do you explain Israel having no constitution and its laws being based on the Torah, not to mention preferential laws for the devout religious of the Jewish religion?
considering that you have strong views on Israel, your complete lack of knowledge of Israel is scary. Israel got what is called "Basic Laws" which are considered supreme law of the land. While it is not called "constitution" it is just as much of a constitution as in most democratic states of the western world. The only religios laws are those of family laws and they are mixed that is depending on the religion of the person they would be either christian, jewish, muslims or otherwise. Israel is a model of tolerancy and would not impose values of one group over another
