Nadine, it's not a war zone. The war is over.

Not until the shooting stops, and it hasn't stopped. The fedayeen Saddam and the crazy jihadists from Syria are still trying to blow up Americans every day.

It's now a police state

No. It is a state in stasis, under martial law. A police state is a more or less permanent condition. This is not.

but a shouting girl isn't really a threat to tough soldiers

Maurice, last week in the same vicinity a screaming pregnant woman blew up and took a number of soldiers with her. The Marines are supposed to tell the difference exactly how? I tell you, it's a tribute to their restraint that she hasn't been shot already. If this scene were taking place in Sacramento, California I would concede your point. But not in Baghdad! from CNN's website:

Baghdad firefight: Elements of the 4th Infantry Division fought a brief firefight near Taji Airfield north of Baghdad on Wedneday, killing some Iraqi fighters and destroying several T-72 tanks. More than 100 Iraqi fighters also were captured.

Hint: When the war's over, there won't be any more firefights.

Soldiers who point their guns at a girl running up screaming at them are pathetic.

Soldiers who didn't point their guns at a girl who jumped out of a car screaming at them are dead.

Jesus Gonzalez still the last casualty of conflict? adn.com What a weird coincidence.

A human sacrifice, another Jesus, opposing another repressive state, in seeking universal human rights, freedom and love. Now, again, right here during Easter 2003.

His family should be compensated for his sacrifice. The Coalition of the Willing should sell oil to pay for his estate's compensation, and that of other casualties, both military and civilian.

I'll ask Google about Jesus Gonzalez.

<• Marine Cpl. Jesus Gonzalez, 22, of Indio, Calif., was killed in action on April 12 after one of two men posing as landscape workers approached and shot him as he guarded a medical checkpoint in Baghdad. > abcnews.go.com

"Civilians" are obviously the main danger now. Discriminating between Mouthy Broads and attackers will be crucial.
