Women's right to vote, own property, go to school, own a business, or run for public office ought not to be subject to society's whims.

Careful now.... a day or 2 ago, I ran into trouble for pointing out that India had a female Prime Minister, whilst the US did not yet have a female President.

CB,

By now everyone has seen the joke about how strange these times are (when the best golfer is black and the best rapper is white etc). This thread has evolved to the point where conservatives are arguing 60's liberalism and liberals are arguing the exact same points Wallace did in '68 (albeit that blacks and women are in our country so we can legally 'intervene' in Alabama).

Were blacks ready for civil rights in 1965? Hell they were ready in 1865. It just took the rest of us a century to wake up.

Freedom and democracy are an inherent right and they are not American ideals or even British, they are Greek. And you know what? I do not have the slightest inclination to throw off the yoke of Greek cultural colonialism and return to my tribal roots.
