Aren't you forgetting the billion or so that Saddam and family had squirreled away? How can you say they are poor? You saw the palaces and love nests of Uday, etc.

If the Iraqis were really true believers in their leaders, they would have been a very effective guerrila force, using the cities to knock off US troops for years. Instead, everyone melted away, especially the "vaunted Republican guards."

Missiles from china
anti tank missiles and anti-aircraft systems from russia
russian MIGS
night goggles from russia and syria
100000 troops supposedly surrounding the city.
guerilla warfare
russian guidance in defending urban environments

yet, we rolled in and had a few skirmishes over a few days. That does not sound like much of a defense does it?

The press had all of you left wing lemmings had the US bogged down in Baghdad for months.

It must have killed you to see the city fall so easily and readily.

Even the left wing NYT published polls showing 70+% pro-war acceptance...76% in CA.

so you live in Cambridge MA, Berkeley CA or portions of SF....

John,

"Baghdad would have been defended"

The reasoning given to us by Saddam Hussein, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf (his famous misinformation minister) and other spokesmen, is that they were going to turn Baghdad into a 'quagmire'.

A street-to-street fight which included Iraqi civilians gallantly defending their fearless leader to their deaths. No, they would've lost in the end, but they were going to make the great Satan pay a heavy cost.

Well, you saw what happened. Nary a civilian wanted to die for the beast of Baghdad. When the going got rough, the civilians headed for cover. They turned out to be a lot smarter than he gave them credit.
