If you were around in 1967, I'm sure you will remember Nassar's booming speeches about how the Egyptians would "drive the Jews into the sea." I suspect that if the result had been different, we wouldn't be worried about a few civilian casualties as we do today. There would have been mass extermination as Nassar promised.

Israel started the 67 war by attacking Egyptian planes on the ground as well as the 54 war with a pre-conceived plan to annex the Sinai. There plan failed when President Eisenhower forced Israel, France and England to withdraw from the Sinai. Part of Israel's plan to provoke the 54 war is contained in the Lavon Affair: geocities.com Israel used Israelis and Jewish-Egyptians terrorists dressed as Arabs to attack Americans and American property in Egypt. Israel used this deception for two purposes. The first was an attempt to turn American public opinion against the Egyptians and the second was to provide Israel with a pretense to attack Egypt. The first failed because American and Egyptian intelligence caught the Jewish terrorists and proved that they were not Egyptian Arabs. But Israel used Egypts execution of the Jewish traitors to murder some 100 Egyptian civilians near Gaza and then, with the help of England and France, invaded the Sinai.
