>>Don't bet all your money on the end of the world, it's a one time event. <<

I know that's hyperbole -- but it raises a larger pt. The converse is even more true ... don't bet everything on continuity.

1) Any of us may or may not be here tomorrow. Make plans for when you aren't. Financial and otherwise ...

2) Sure fire investment and capital protection schemes all have times at which they fail and fail miserably, e.g. buy and hold stocks of quality companies ...

3) History, larger timeframes, do indicate how rare extended periods of such continuity are -- it is not foolish to try and plan for such events because the are so rare, e.g. many have been sold the idea of keeping assets mostly in financial instruments -- indeed it is currently common wisdom that financial instruments and housing should comprise the bulk of ones 'savings' or capital.

I'm only gonna die once, but term life is cheap.

Bouts of hyperinflation are quite rare ... here, but inflation of the money supply is constant. It is unwise not to hold a part of ones savings in some fungible commodity recognized the world over as having value -- pick what others like and that which can be stored relatively easy for your convenience.
