My feeling is that Russia/Putin was instrumental in bringing about the collapse of the Iraqi war effort... Remember Bush's phone call to Putin, and the ensuing visit to Moscow by NSA Rice? Officially, the US was mad about Russia's delivery of "night goggles" to Iraq --LOL... that was a joke. My opinion was that the Iraqi military's lifeline depended upon Russian intelligence, that is, satellite pictures, radio intercepts, and the presence in Baghdad of key Russian "instructors" (Remember that the US also complained about the Iraqi embassy in Moscow...)

When a deal was eventually struck between Putin and Bush, it sealed the fate of the Iraqi regime....
