Question: why did the PRI suddenly lose after all those years? Did they become so corrupt that they offended some other base of power? I have never read any good critical analysis of that situation.

llmarinen, Mexico has not had a true democratic government for years. They have had an oligarchy, with rotating oligarchs to stifle the foreign press.
Now have they changed, or merely learned to hide the provenance of the oligarchs a lot better.
The cash stripped from Mexico by the PRI over the century is why Mexico has a lower standard of living that southern California.
