But, in addition to the benefits of peace, instead of spending their money on their own militaries, they pass the savings on to us. The world doesn't need two superpowers keeping the peace, and it certainly doesn't need every country armed to the teeth. That's a waste of money. As for people in the Middle East hating the US, my impression is that they really hate Israel, and hate us for favoring Israel over Palestine. They don't give a damn about dead Jewish children, only dead Arab children.
