I think the diplomacy breakthough with NK is the result of DOD activity, not State. And the Resolve of the Prez not to give into blackmail.

If you look at it as a breakthrough with NK, you would get that impression. I'm not sure that's what it was, though. In many ways it was more of a diplomatic breakthrough with China. I don't know how much influence DOD has with China, and I don't think they were blackmailing us.

<<< Resolve of the Prez
Not many doubt the prez' resolve, I think. But he could use a little more finesse when making public
statements like this:
I loathe Kim Jong Il!" Bush shouted to Woodward. "I've got a visceral reaction to this guy because he is
starving his people. Maybe it's my religion … but I feel passionate about this.>>>

So the first thing I read on Marketwatch this morning is....
US Plans to Bomb Koreas Nuclear Plant -which is something worth checking into
OK , so Saddam spent all his peoples money on armaments and palaces while the people starve and the economy rots
Kim spends 70 % of the countries income on armies and armaments and hugely expensive nuclear/missile development while the people starve and the economy rots.
