Gustave,

I would caution against holding the French-Algerian conflict as a close parallel to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The biggest difference is that the French were never indigenous to Algeria and they had a place to go home, France.

If somehow the Palestinians were militarily victorious over the Israelis where would the Jews go? Know any countries willing to take in 6M plus people? Like it or not they perceive themselves as having their backs to the wall.

If the Palestinians were ruling Jews in Palestine today I think you'd see nearly the reverse of today's events. It's hard to imagine Jews having any serious representation in a Palestinian government. Before long you would have ex-Israelis using guerilla and terror techniques against a Palestinian government.

Hey Gusstave, on your "de Gaulle (in Algeria) killed two birds with one stone..."

That's what you say, while the French say:

"We lost Algeria, but not the Algerians! Not the Algerians..."
