the average car lasts 15 years. the trick, as they said on ABC the other night, is to get people to want what they don't need. same with 'puters and 'phones. remember when the replacement cycle (new era built-in obsolescene) was 6 months for cellphones in 99-2000.

Some dude from Loonie Sayles was trying to give example of a company that has had good top line growth (and thus signifying a turn in the economy), and he mentioned the bellweather stock Rent-A-Center...lol (Yup, people who pawned their TVs to pay the mortgage, and have to rent their consumer durables are a good indication of the big turn). SARS is a bad, bad boy.....how does that stay out of the US? Even if it doesn't (somehow), how does world NOT slip back into recession with the only high-growth region dead-in-water? Pharma companies said today that there are easy solutions- vaccines are years away. Let's all hope/pray for some miracle cure/find by some PhD student/gvt. health official somewhere soon
