I was feeling a little claustrophobic over at Ihub so I thought I would check the scene out here at SI. Imagine my shock (not the electrical kind) when I learned both Matt and Bob were over here also! Unreal!

I guess the downside to more stringent censoring is that ever increasing amounts of wisdom and impartiality are needed in order to remain fair. I think at a certain level of censorship (or "strictness" if you prefer) a point is reached where nobody could possibly have enough wisdom or impartiality to administer the rules even handedly.

I went over two years on SI without really even being aware of any watchful eye from above except for some vague concept that "SI Bob" might slap you if you crossed the line of decency. I must say "SI Bob" was a very ethreal character who I didn't know (or care) much about. Sure, we had a few thread clowns appear but we would just pummel them with logic, their illogical arguments would not stand for long. Riff-raff was fairly minimal, I don't think anyone thought much about it.

Now my experience on iHub has been completely different. There is the over-whelming presence of the "Sheriff" who acts as cop, judge and jailer and probation officer. There is no one to appeal to except Matt who is not above trying to rile up the local inhabitants himself just for his personal jollies. It's almost as if he would get bored or feel powerless if there were no infractions to deal with. Must keep the rivalry going at all costs. I never saw anything like this in my years at SI.

I'm getting tired of spending half my time dealing with internal site politics when I really just want to discuss stocks without interference. Shockingly, Matt even drags stuff from beyond the iHub site into the rink for "discussion". That's how much he likes to slap people around. I'm hoping it's just a temporal phase he's going through otherwise I'm afraid iHub will be nothing more than a clique of a club with all the brownosers running around with their noses firmly planted in Matt's ass.

Am I just imagining all this and iHub is really a shining example of what a discussion forum should be all about or have others discovered the same thing?

Help!
